New for 2009, our Dorset walking maps will help
holidaymakers and seasoned walkers alike explore this
lovely corner of England. Dorset is perhaps best
known for its spectacular coastline, now a World
Heritage Site, where a succession of extraordinary
rock formations are strung out like pearls, from the
crumbling chalk stacks of Old Harry Rocks to Lulworth
Cove and the limestone arch of Durdle Door. Yet
Dorset has so much more than coastline: forest trails
and heathland; grassy downs much beloved by
prehistoric man; meandering river paths and pretty
villages tucked away from the major roads.
Based on Ordnance Survey cartography under
licence, our maps show a selection of walks, ranging
from around three to nine miles, which take in the
highlights of this wonderfully diverse county, from
windswept coastal walks and trails through nature
reserves to forest rambles and walks in the footsteps
of Dorset's famous sons, Thomas Hardy and T E
Lawrence. The maps also show detailed information on
local footpaths as well as highlighting places of
interest and nearby tourist attractions.
